Coffee agroforestry and hydrology monitoring in Vietnam
Tropenbos Vietnam
Vietnam
With joint effort, Tropenbos Vietnam, Tây Nguyên University and FarmTree captured sample coffee monocrop and agroforestry farms and set up a long term soil moisture study in DakLak region. The calibrated FarmTree Tool, is utilized for projecting environmental services for informing the development of PES systems.
Advancing agroforestry for smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia
Kyeema Foundation
Ethiopia
In the Ethiopian coffee system, the FarmTree Tool is proving useful in supporting the adoption and scaling of agroforestry practices, with a focus on enhancing farmers' income and biodiversity. With collaboration from Kyeema Foundation and Moyee, a Dutch coffee company, the project is working on extending to benefit multiple coffee areas.
Economic viability of biodiverse Tembawang systems in Oil Palm dominated landscapes
Tropenbos International
West Kalimantan, Indonesia
In West-Kalimantan, Oil Palm monocropping threatens natural forest as well as traditional multi-tree intercropped systems (“Tembawang”). We developed a tailored multi-cropping planning tool for field staff to assess costs and benefits of mixes of tree and crop species; based on locally collected tree and crop production and price data; including (gendered) labour. Financial Access used outcomes to develop biodiverse / regenerative business plans for local credit providers
Agroforestry in Cocoa impact projection
Tropenbos International
Ghana
Tropenbos aims to restore the high forests in Western-North Ghana by looking at alternatives for cocoa monocropping. FarmTreeServices™ identified agroforestry options and calculated their present values, bearing in mind that both cocoa and shadow trees yield sellable produce in decades from now
Coffee agroforestry, Colombia
Sustainable Agriculture NetworkImplementing TerraViva in Planadas, Colombia, the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) aims to develop business models for coffee agroforestry systems. FarmTree®Tool facilitated a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis, comparing conventional coffee cultivation scenarios with three distinct agroforestry systems, revealing insights into performance differences and carbon sequestration potential across various agroforestry approaches within the TerraViva initiative.

Feasibility study on Cocoa Agroforestry in Peru
ECOM
Peru
ECOM, an international cocoa trading company
that among other countries sources from Peru, is embarking on a mission to facilitate their produces in transitioning to cocoa agroforestry. We tailored the multi-cropping planning tool that includes local species and cocoa production specifics for the trading companies field staff to use in decision making process. Moreover, the cost benefit analysis report comparing cocoa Business As Usual and agroforestry scenarios has been produced to document the findings and facilitate cocoa agroforestry communication with farmers, government and financial institutions

PrAda 2+ Madagascar – Economic and Financial Analysis for Green Climate Fund
GIZ Madagascar
Madagascar
FarmTree conducted the economic and financial analysis for GIZ's PrAda 2+ programme (FP278), approved by the Green Climate Fund with USD 50.4 million in funding. Building on PrAda I, the project adapts agricultural value chains to climate change across five crops: clove, peanut, vanilla, coffee, and pepper.
Through field visits, using FarmTree's Agroforestry System Design module, the team identified profitable, climate-resilient interventions for farmers. FarmTree then developed scaled investment scenarios within project budget constraints using the Investment Case Development module.
The analysis demonstrated that net present value projections over 20+ years are essential for landscape-level investments, particularly when major impacts occur post-project (e.g., clove yielding 10-15 years after establishment). The project was approved by GCF and independent reviewers, with implementation planned for 2026-2031.
Watershed reforestation in Morogoro, Tanzania
NWB Fonds
Tanzania
For the conservation and restoration of the Mindu dam catchment in Morogoro, Tanzania, agroforestry has been identified as an important nature-based solution. The NWB Fonds Watershed Reforestation Tool, powered by the FarmTree tool, is being used for decision support to identify agroforestry options and to catalyse climate action.
Food forests, Tanzania
Helvetas TanzaniaHelvetas, supporting farmers in central Tanzania aims to enhance farmers' incomes, reduce losses, and strategize crop product marketing. Employing the FarmTree®Tool for a detailed assessment, the analysis compared Forest Gardens with conventional agricultural scenarios, examining economic gains and carbon sequestration potential over a 30-year projection. The FarmTree®Tool's analysis provided insights into evaluating long-term sustainability without disclosing specific outcomes

Carbon sequestration for Rabobank, ACORN
Acorn Rabobank
Asia, Africa and Latin America
The Rabobank Acorn project requires single-species carbon sequestration projections for smallholder agroforestry business case development. FarmTree developed a protocol to project the biomass of individual species - even if they are poorly documented - and calibrate those with field-verified data by Acorn partners.
Develop Entrepreneurial Agroforestry Strategy for the Royal Government of Bhutan
DAI / EU-TACS / RGoB
Bhutan
RGoB requested for an Agroforestry Strategy to enable farmers to have low-labour, economic land use options. We developed a tailored multi-cropping planning tool that projects 30-year costs and benefits and contributed to the National Agroforestry Strategy and Programme Development.

REFOREST-PROJECT
EU HORIZON
Europe
Reforest is a Horizon Europe-funded project aimed at fostering innovation, supporting knowledge exchange, and providing novel solutions to empower farmers in Europe and associated countries to deliver multiple objectives: food production, carbon capture, and biodiversity. FarmTree captures ReForest Living Labs' agroforestry scenarios and is enabling farmTree Tool users to design and project the performance using ReForest agroforestry species, empowering them with valuable insights and data-driven decisions.
Integrated Pest Management in Oil palm, Malaysia
Sustainable Agriculture NetworkWith the support of SAN experts, the IPM simulation module was integrated into the FarmTree Tool. Leveraging SAN's expertise in nature-based solutions for Oil Palm cultivation, the integration encompassed elements such as herbivorous insects, natural enemies, and beneficial plants.
Malaysia
Banana agroforestry
Agrofair
Peru, Ecuador & Costa Rica
We worked with AgroFair to model the performance of banana agroforestry compared to banana monoculture systems, to understand the benefits of cash crop diversification in terms of yields, costs-benefits, carbon sequestration and resistance to diseases. This has supported AgroFair in their ambitions to expand fair trade bananas to agroforestry.
