FarmTree BV is an innovative start-up dedicated to supporting landscape restoration initiatives, with a special focus on Agroforestry. Our mission is to make cost-benefit analysis accessible to farmers and quantify the environmental services such as carbon and water buffering, to create the information required for production-based and additional income streams.
We provide technical advice, and impact quantification services, and access to our online FarmTree® Platform. There we host a range of databases, models and tools, that enable experts and farmers to make the business case for location-specific Agroforestry across the globe. Users can upload Agroforestry scenarios, and compare the economic, environmental, and social impacts for decision-support and business planning.
FarmTree is currently rolling out a range of products, including:
- Platform Development for Farm and Landscape Economic and Financial Analysis
- Expert Advice for Agroforestry Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation System Development

Responsibilities
- Manage project assignments and provide technical and training services; online and also on location
- Research and develop investment cases on agroforestry and landscape restauration.
- Test and operate the FarmTree Platform for client assignments, and provide user feedback to the Innovation and IT team; particularly in coffee / cocoa, watershed and landscape restoration.
- Provide platform demonstrations and manage relations with leads and clients and knowledge partners. Represent FarmTree company in relevant platforms.
- Develop training and promotion material of company services, and contribute to maintaining the website and social media
Must Have
- MSc degree or higher in agronomy or agriculture-social or economic sciences
- At least 2 years relevant field or consultancy experience
- Communication and writing skills in English and French.
- Interest in quantitative and modelling approaches. Interest in survey, spreadsheets or similar data processing.
- Valid work permit for The Netherlands and ready to work at the Wageningen office.
Nice to have
- Social media and marketing skills; including the use of AI tools for social media campaigning
- Working paper or scientific publication experience
- IT skills such as GIS data processing, AI for data collection and reporting, python data processing or comparable. We like to be surprised by skills you can bring into the company.
- Good mood and eager to share knowledge and learn from peers.
The Position
You support our Innovation team and our growing client base in commodities such as coffee and cocoa, as well as in watershed and landscape restauration initiatives.
At FarmTree you will join a small, ambitious and diverse team based in the Netherlands, and with colleagues in focus areas in the global south. You will be based at our office in Wageningen. As our Agroforestry Investment Case Developer, your work will include the following:
- Work directly with clients on project implementation, including planning, coordination and execution, with a strong focus on financial and economic systems and processes. You will use the FarmTree Platform as an essential tool in service delivery. You will frequently be the lead consultant on projects and ensure a successful implementation cycle, including advice, training, timely delivery and making sure to stay within budget.
- Together with the rest of the innovation team you work on project design and proposal development for prospective clients. You assess each prospect's needs and together with the team translate these into competitive offerings and winning proposals.
- You manage relationships with clients, consultants, key partners and other stakeholders. You make sure that everybody is on board and happy.
- You oversee and closely monitor KPI’s in your project portfolio, keep a clear administration and regularly report on progress.
Your Qualities
You have affinity with smallholder agribusiness and landscape restoration and associated multi-stakeholder engagement across the globe. You are client-service oriented. In addition you match the following profile:
- MSc. in an agronomic, agro-economic or natural resource management
- Two or more years of field or project level experience in rural development programmes in the field of sustainable agriculture, forestry or agroforestry
- Experience in West Africa
- Affinity with modelling or calculation frameworks and quantification of economic and environmental impact; though data processing languages and / or spreadsheet programmes
- Capacity to learn to apply AI for report writing and social media campaigning
- Professional speaking and writing capabilities in English and French
- Willingness to travel and interact with clients in project areas
- Prepared to work at the FarmTree Plus Ultra office at the Wageningen campus.
